Hofstra Box ScoreThe Fordham University men's tennis squad had a busy Sunday, traveling to Quinnipiac University for a morning match and then back to Long Island for an afternoon match at Hofstra University. Unfortunately Fordham lost both matches, falling to Quinnipiac, 7-0, and Hofstra, 5-2.
The Rams opened the Quinnipiac match dropping the three doubles matches. Quinnipiac's Jones Kuwert and Luke Roser defeated
Pol Giraldez and
Max Peara at first doubles, 8-5, Eric Ambrosio and Willem van Biezen bested
Pedro Alonzo and
Joseph Kavaloski at second doubles, 8-2, and Sebastian Barbero and Carlos Fernandez were victorious over
Joey Brander and
Harris Durkovic at the third position, 8-6.
Fordham then lost the six singles matches in straight sets.
In the Hofstra match, the Rams opened play winning the doubles point, taking two of the three double matches. Peara and Giraldez took first doubles from Beau Wills and Niko Vulinovich, 7-5, while Brander and Durkovic won at third doubles over Kevin Devine and Leonardo Pires, 6-2.
In singles play, Giraldez won a hard-fought match against Wills at first singles, dropping the first set, 6-4, but coming back to take the second, 6-2, and then going overtime in the tiebreaker before winning, 11-9.
Fordham almost picked up points at fifth and sixth singles, losing both matches in the tiebreaker. Brander took the first set at fifth singles from Pires, 6-3, but then dropped the second, 6-4, and the tiebreaker, 12-10. Durkovic lost the first set at sixth singles, 6-3, but forced a tiebreaker with a 6-3 win in the second set, which he lost 10-6.
The Rams close out the regular season on Sunday, April 19, as they host ASA for Senior Day on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 4:00 PM.
