STATS Release Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham junior linebacker
George Dawson was named STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week as well as Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week it was announced today.
In Fordham's 24-16 Patriot League win over Bucknell on Jack Coffey Field on Saturday, Dawson made a team-high ten tackles, eight solo, including two sacks for a loss of 25 yards. He also forced a fumble, broke up a pass and intercepted a two-point conversion pass that would have given Bucknell an 18-17 lead with 1:44 remaining. Dawson also recovered the ensuing onside kick for the Rams. His first sack was also a forced fumble that was recovered by Fordham and led to the Rams' first score of the second half that gave Fordham a 17-10 lead. The ten tackles is a season-high for the Bronx native.
On the year, Dawson has 54 total tackles, 33 solo, including 5.5 for loss and 3.0 sacks. He also has five pass breakups, four quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
The Rams (8-2, 4-1) close out the 2015 regular season on Saturday, November 14, as they travel to Washington, D.C., to face the Georgetown University Hoyas on Cooper Field at 12:00 p.m.
