Photo Gallery Despite three individual event wins from
Megan Polaha and a school record performance from
Wendy Espina-Esquivel in the one-meter dive, the Fordham women's swimming & diving team dropped a very close decision to the Army West Point Black Knights, 160-139, at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center on Friday.
The meet started out well for the Rams, taking first in the 200 medley relay, as
Morgan Fairclough,
Gabrielle Celia,
Shannon Lulley, and
Chandler Lulley posted a winning time of 1:45.96.
Army West Point then won took first in the next four events, before Fordham's
Megan Polaha took the top spot in the 200 butterfly in 2:05.08.
Shannon Lulley followed that win with one of her own in the 50 freestyle, as she just out-touched Molly Mucciarone by .03 seconds, winning with a time of 24.11 seconds.
The Rams then got a school record performance from diver
Wendy Espina-Esquivel, as she bettered her own school record on the one-meter board with a score of 286.65 points, bettering her score of 280.20, set last week.
Wendy Espina-Esquivel broke the school record in the one-meter dive on Friday. Fordham made it four event wins in a row, when
Chandler Lulley took first in the 100- freestyle in 53.16 seconds.
Army West Point though regained control of the meet with three straight event wins, before Polaha pulled off back-to-back wins in the 100 butterfly (56.90) and 200 individual medley (2:07.97).
Espina-Esquivel then completed the sweep in the diving events, winning the three-meter competition with a score of 259.20 points.
Fordham won the final event of the evening, taking first in the 400 freestyle relay, as
Shannon Lulley,
Kalena Laurent,
Megan Gray, and
Chandler Lulley in a time of 3:32.78.
The Fordham women's swimming & diving team will next be in action on November 7
th, when the Rams travel up to Boston University for a 1:30 start.
