The Collegiate Water Polo Association released its weekly honor roll on Wednesday, and Fordham senior
Noah LeBeau (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson Classical) was selected as the Northern Division Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman
Ethan Vandeventer (Los Angeles, Calif./Flintridge Prep) was named Rookie of the Week. Sophomore
R.J. Simmons (Irvine, Calif/Northwood) was also named to the CWPA Northern Division Offensive Player Honor Roll.
The trio helped Fordham to a 3-1 record at the Bucknell Invitational, improving the team's overall record to 6-2.
LeBeau earned his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Week award, and the fourth of his career, after racking up 36 saves and eight steals in four contests. He posted 10 saves and a steal in an 8-7 loss to 20th-ranked George Washington, prior to notching four stops in three and a half quarters in a 10-3 win over the University of Toronto. LeBeau continued the tournament with seven saves in a pair of quarters against Washington & Jefferson before wrapping up the tournament with 15 saves and three steals in a 7-6 sudden death overtime win against the host Bison of Bucknell.
The victory over Bucknell had historical significance in the annals of the league as it marked the Rams' first victory over the Bison since October 9, 1981 to snap a 33-year and 29-game losing streak by Fordham to Bucknell.
Vandeventer received his first Rookie of the Week accolade after tallying two goals, two assists, and five steals during the Bucknell Invitational. He made his mark in the final two games of the tournament, notching a goal and an assist in a win over Washington & Jefferson, while scoring the game-winning goal in sudden death overtime to beat Bucknell to go with three steals.
Simmons made the Offensive Player Honor Roll after totaling eight goals, six assists, and nine steals over the four games at the Bucknell Invitational.
The Rams are back in action on September 20
th, as the team opens league play at Connecticut College at 1:00 PM and at Brown at 7:00 PM.
