Box Score Bronx, N.Y. (September 13, 2014) – The Fordham University men's tennis team opened the 2014-15 season on a positive note, defeating Saint Peter's College, 4-3, on the Hawthorn Rooney Courts on Saturday.
The Rams opened the match by winning the doubles point, taking two of the three doubles matches.
Pol Giraldez and
J.J. Tauil teamed up to take first doubles from Carlos Carrera and Oliver Bellomi, 8-2, and
Max Peara and
Joey Brander managed to outlast Tom Jottrand and Daniil Ivanov at second doubles, 8-7, taking the tiebreaker, 8-6.
Fordham then took the match by winning three of the six singles matches. Giraldez took third singles from Jottrand in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, while
Pedro Alonzo did the same at fifth singles over Bellomi, 6-4, 6-3. Tauil secured the win for the Rams with a 6-4, 7-6 win at first singles, taking the second set tiebreaker, 7-5.
The Rams return to action on October 3 when they begin play at the Quinnipiac Invitational in Hamden, Conn. Fordham will also host an alumni event next Saturday, September 20, at 1:00 p.m. on the Hawthorn Rooney Courts.
