Lombardo's Huge Day Lifts Fordham to 9-5 Win

Rams Register Two Four-Run Innings in Victory

Box Score

Kayla Lombardo registered four RBI on the day, including the game-winning three-run homer in the top of the seventh to lead Fordham to a 9-5 victory over Lehigh on Wednesday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa.

With the win, the Rams move to 20-16 on the season.

Lombardo knocked in the first run of the afternoon for Fordham in the opening frame.  After Sydney Canessa led off the action with a double to left center and moved to third on an Amy Van Hoven ground out, the Pompton Plains, N.J., native brought Canessa home.

The Mountain Hawks, however, responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning.  Rachel Gillen had already registered two strikeouts in the inning before a two-RBI triple from Jessica Calvini put Lehigh on top by a run after one.

Lehigh added one more run in the bottom of the second on another triple, this one from Emma Capetz, taking a 3-1 lead into the third.

Both teams kept off the scoreboard for the next couple of innings before the Rams exploded in the top of the fifth.  With one out, Cora Ianiro singled to the shortstop before Canessa reached on an error by the Lehigh third baseman.  With runners on first and second, Van Hoven singled to center and advanced to second on the throw, scoring Ianiro.  Next up was Elise Fortier, who cleared the bases with a two-RBI double to left center.  Two batters later, Gabby Luety knocked in Fortier with a single to center, capping a four-run frame and putting the Rams ahead by a pair.

Trailing by two, the Mountain Hawks wasted no time tying up the contest, tallying a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to knot the score at five heading into the top of the sixth.

After a scoreless frame, the Rams had another stellar inning in the top of the seventh.  Canessa and Van Hoven both reached base before Lombardo brought them all home with a three-run round tripper to center.  Paige Ortiz knocked in another run before third out, giving the Rams their second inning of the day with four runs and a 9-5 lead.

Fordham closed out Lehigh in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Rams their 20th win of the year.
