The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly baseball awards on Monday with two Rams being honored. Fordham's
Tim Swatek was selected as the Atlantic 10 Baseball Player of the Week, while freshman hurler
Kirk Haynes, Jr. was tabbed as Rookie of the Week.
It is the first career weekly award for both Swatek and Haynes, and marks the third Rookie of the Week award for a Fordham player this season (
Mark Donadio and
Greg Weissert).
Swatek was an all-around threat this weekend in a series sweep at St. Bonaventure. He hit .667 for the weekend (8-12) with four runs scored, a double, two triples, and four RBI. He also finished with four walks, three stolen bases, and a .750 on-base percentage.
On Saturday, he was 3-for-3 with two RBI and three extra-base hits, which included two triples. He followed with his first career four-hit game on Sunday, going 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. He also pitched five shutout innings on Sunday to post his team-leading fourth win of the season.
In his first A-10 start of the year, Haynes was outstanding in his Friday start against St. Bonaventure. He threw a season-high 8.1 innings, allowing just one run on four hits to earn his second win of the season. He also tied a season-high with nine strikeouts.
Swatek, Haynes, and the rest of the Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Tuesday, April 22
nd, when the Rams host Fairfield at Houlihan Park.
