Live StatsAfter having their game against LSU called in the top of the fourth on Tuesday due to rain, the Fordham Rams will be back in action on Thursday afternoon, playing host to Saint Louis in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader.
The Rams and Billikens are two of the top three teams in the league standings, ranking first and second in overall wins.
FORTIER ON FIRE: After breaking the Atlantic 10 record with 20 home runs a season ago,
Elise Fortier is putting together another banner year for the Rams in 2014. Having started all 41 games on the spring, Fortier currently leads the team in a multitude of categories, but none more impressive than her RBI total. The Coventry, R.I., native has driven in 47 runs, just 13 shy of the school record set by Beckah Wiggins in 2010.
Fortier looked as if she had touched the 50 RBI mark in Tuesday's game against LSU, but her three-run home run was eventually made moot by the game getting called in the fourth.
FORTIER AND LUETY CHASE HISTORY: In Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Binghamton, the dynamic power hitting duo of
Elise Fortier and
Gabby Luety combined for five home runs, three by Luety and two by Fortier, to lead the Rams to victory. The impressive display was just the lastest chapter in the pair's assault on the Fordham record book. With 37 homers apiece for their Fordham careers, the two are currently tied for second place on the career home run list. They are both eight round trippers shy of record-holder Jocelyn Dearborn, who belted 45 goners from 2008-2011.
A note to keep in mind: Fortier's numbers only reflect her three-year career at Fordham and do not include her freshman season at Stony Brook.
SERIES HISTORY: The Rams and Billikens have met one another 17 times since 2006, with Fordham holding the historical edge, 12-5.
SCOUTING SLU: The only other team in the Atlantic 10 to reach 20 wins so far this season, the Billikens come to Bahoshy Field after a 2-1 extra inning win over SIU-Edwardsville on Tuesday afternoon.
The Billikens are led at the dish by junior standout Lindsay Friedman, who tops the team in nearly every major statistical category. Friedman (.339) is one of just two Billikens hitting above the .300 mark, with Alex Nickel coming into the doubleheader at .301.
WHO'S NEXT? Following their twin bill with St. Louis, the Rams will play host to UMass for another double dip on Saturday. First pitch is slated for noon.
Saturday will also serve as senior day for the Class of 2014.
