New York, N.Y. (March 8, 2014) – The Fordham University men's tennis squad hosted the Binghamton Bearcats on Saturday at Columbia University and were shut out by the visitors, 4-0.
The match opened with Binghamton winning the doubles point as Alexander Maisin and Ismael Dinia defeated
Mischa Koran and
Matty Najfeld at first doubles, 8-6, Frenk Kote and Vihar Shah upended
Max Peara and
Michael Puntillo at the second position, 8-4, and Eliott Hureau and Sid Hazarika bested
Alastair Barnes and
J.J. Tauil at third doubles, 8-5.
The Bearcats then won the match with three singles wins, taking the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches. Dinia upended
Mischa Koran at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-1, Hureau defeated Peara, 6-2, 6-0, at the fifth spot and Thomas Caputo bested
Pedro Alonzo at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-0.
The Rams were leading in two of the three unfinished matches as Najfeld took the first set from Robin Lesage at first singles, 7-5 and was leading in the second, 2-0, while Barnes won the first set of second singles from Hazarika, 7-6, and was ahead in the second, 3-1.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday, March 11, as they host Saint Louis University at Stadium Tennis in the Bronx at 11:00 a.m.
