Rams Split Two Games on Saturday

Fordham Falls to #1 Florida, Tops Omaha

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Game One

Squaring off against the number one team in the nation is never an easy task and the Rams proved that point today, falling to #1 Florida 9-2 in Orlando on Saturday afternoon.

Kayla Lombardo led the Rams at the dish, going 2-3 against the Gators.  Michele Daubman picked up a hit and an RBI, while Brianna Turgeon drove in the Rams' other run.

Florida put up runs early and often on Saturday, plating one run in the first before Kirsti Merritt knocked a two-run homer in the top of the second.

The Gators added three more in the fourth, as Kelsey Stewart ripped an RBI triple before Merritt hit her second round-tripper of the day, a two-run shot that made it 6-0.

The Rams responded with both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Daubman reached on a bunt single, scoring Amy Van Hoven.  Turgeon then hit a sac fly, bringing home Lombardo from third.

Florida added three more runs in the top of the seventh, giving them the 9-2 advantage with which they would end the game.

Game Two

Amy Van Hoven had the best game of her young career, going 3-4 with a pair of RBI to lead Fordham in a 6-2 win over Omaha on Saturday afternoon.

The win snapped an eight-game losing skid for the Rams.

Duabman and Gabby Luety also registered multi-hit games for the Rams, as each 2-3 on the day.  Luety also added an RBI.  Lombardo, Paige Oritz and Elise Fortier also drove in runs for the Rams.

Neither team scored in the first two innings of the afternoon's second game, but Omaha got on the board first in the top of the third, as Allie Mathewson belted a two-run shot.

Fordham answered right back in the bottom half of the inning, as Fortier and Lombardo tallied RBI doubles and Luety drove in a run with a single down the right field line to give her team a 3-2 advantage after three.

Daubman shut down the Mavs in the circle over the remainder of the game, keeping Omaha off the board.

The Rams added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Fordham has two more games in Orlando this weekend, taking on Syracuse and Bradley tomorrow afternoon.  First pitch against Syracuse is set for 10 AM and the game against Bradley will follow shortly after the completion of the first game.
