Queens, N.Y. (February 28, 2014) – The Fordham University men's tennis squad traveled into Queens and picked up their first victory of the spring season with a 6-1 win over Queens College at the USTA Center.
The Rams opened play by taking the doubles point, winning all three matches.
Matty Najfeld and
Kuba Kowalski teamed up to win at first doubles over Chris Baron and Younes Hidass, 8-7, and
Max Peara and
J.J. Tauil upended Andre Pellegrino and Kevin Burgess at the second position, 8-4.
Mischa Koran and
Michael Puntillo won by default at third doubles.
Fordham then won five of the six singles matches, four in straight sets. Najfeld defeated Baron at second singles, 6-1, 6-4, while Koram bested Pelegrino at the third spot, 6-4, 6-3, Tauil was victorious over Burgess at fourth singles and Peara defeated Adam Pizow at the fifth position, 6-0, 6-0.
Michael Puntillo won at sixth singles by default.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, March 8, as they travel into Manhattan to face Binghamton University at Columbia University at 8:00 PM.
