Philadelphia, Pa. (February 23, 2014) – The Fordham University men's tennis team traveled to Philadelphia on Sunday where they were upended by Temple University, 5-1, at the Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center.
The two teams competed in singles only with the Owls taking five of the six matches.
Matty Najfeld picked up the Fordham points by defeating
Vineet Naran at the second position, dropping the first set, 6-1, but coming back to win the second and third by identical 6-1 scores.
Kuba Kowalski almost scored a point for the Rams at first singles, taking the first set from Nicolas Paulus, 6-2, but dropped the second, 6-1, and then fell in a tiebreaker in the third, 7-6 (8).
Two other matches also went to a third set with
Alastair Barnes winning the first set from
Hicham Belkssir at the third spot, 6-4, but Belkssir came back to win the second, 7-6 (5) and the third, 6-2, while
Pedro Alonzo also won the first set from Maros Januvka at sixth singles, 7-5, but dropped the second, 7-6 (3), and the third 6-2.
The Rams will return to action on Friday, February 28, as they travel into Queens to face the Queens College Knights at the U.S. Tennis Center in Flushing at 12:00 p.m.
