Binghamton, N.Y. (February 23, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis team traveled up to Binghamton on Sunday and came back with a 4-2 win over the host Bearcats at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
The Rams opened play by taking the doubles point, despite losing the first completed double match as
Bella Genkina and
Anika Novacek fell to Alexis Tashiro and Shea Brodsky, 8-3, at third doubles. But the Rams came back to win the other two doubles matches to earn the point.
Angelika Dabu and
Julie Leong defeated Annie DiMuro and Sara Kohtz at second doubles, 8-6, and a few minutes later,
Elliesa Ball and
Sarah Ali upended Agatha Anbrozy and Katherine Medianik by the same score at first doubles for the point.
Fordham then won three of the five completed singles matches to pick up the win. Ball got things started with a straight set win over Medianik, 6-4 and 6-3, at first singles but DiMuro got the Bearcats on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 win over
Destiny Grunin at fourth singles.
Binghamton tied the match a two when Kohtz defeated Ali at second singles, 6-3, 7-6 (7), but Dabu gave the Rams the lead with a win over Alexis Tashiro at third singles, losing the first match, 7-5, before coming back to win the second, 6-3, and the tiebreaker, 10-3. Leong then clinched the win for Fordham with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Brodsky at the fifth position.
The Rams return to action on Friday, February 28, as they host the University of Massachusetts at the Stadium Tennis in the Bronx at 11:00 AM.
