Bronx, N.Y. (February 20, 2014) - The Fordham baseball team gets its 2014 season underway this weekend in South Carolina, as the Rams will play three different opponents at two locations.Â
Â
Fordham will open the season at Wofford on Friday, which will see a probable match-up between Fordham RHP
Brett Kennedy and Wofford RHP Matthew Milburn. Milburn went 4.2 innings in his first start of the season last weekend, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Kennedy will make his second career start as a Ram, having made one start last season as a freshman. Kennedy had a strong freshman campaign, posting a 3-2 record and a 3.66 ERA in 20 appearances with 46 strikeouts in 46.2 inning pitched.
Â
On Saturday, Fordham will take on Presbyterian in a game played at USC Upstate. Fordham RHP
Tim Swatek will be the probable starter for the Rams, making his first career start for the Rose Hill nine. Swatek has made 34 appearances on the mound for Fordham, all in relief, with a 3.65 career ERA in 49.1 innings of work with 40 strikeouts. He'll have his work cut out for him as Presbyterian is 2-1-1 this season, with their only loss being a 4-0 decision to #5 South Carolina.Â
Â
The Blue Hose are batting .261 as a team with 21 runs scored in their four games. On the hill, they post a 3.89 team ERA and defensively have made only one error in four games.
Â
The Rams' final game of the weekend will be against one of the new members of the ACC, the Pittsburgh Panthers. The Panthers are 2-1 after taking two of three games at Coastal Carolina last weekend. Despite hitting just .205 for the weekend, the Panthers rallied for 22 runs in the three-game series at Coastal Carolina. On the hill, Pittsburgh has a 4.12 ERA as a team and could throw RHP T.J. Zeuch, who started the series finale against Coastal Carolina. The Rams have yet to announce a probable starter for the Sunday game, which will be played at Wofford.
