Women’s Tennis Falls to Army, 5-2

Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong win singles matches

West Point, N.Y. (February 9, 2014) – The Fordham University women's tennis squad wrapped up weekend play on Sunday with a 5-2 loss to Army in the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
 
The Rams opened play by dropping the doubles point with Elliesa Ball and Sarah Ali losing to Elle and Della Taylor at first doubles, 6-2, Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong falling at second doubles to Jamila Paul and Carolyn Pitman, 6-1, and Bella Genkina and Anika Novacek getting shut out at the third spot by Margaret Iliev and Carly Riney, 6-0.
 
In singles action, Dabu and Leong picked up the Fordham points with Dabu defeating Gabriella Spindler at third singles, winning the first match, 6-1, before dropping the second, 7-6 (6). But Dabu came back to win the tiebreaker, 10-7.
 
Leong defeated Nancy Porter at fifth singles in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-3.
 
Ball almost picked up another point for the Rams at first singles, winning the first set, 6-2, but falling in the second, 7-6 (6) and the tiebreaker, 10-5.
 
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15, as they travel to Vestal, N.Y., to face the Binghamton University Bearcats at 5:00 p.m.
