Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (November 1, 2014) – The Fordham University squash team ventured up to Vassar College on Saturday to compete in the Hudson Valley College Individual Tournament where
Paul Monaghan won the B Division and John Lennon the C Division.

Monaghan opened the B Division with an 11-6, 11-0, 11-6 win over Vassar's Ryan Kurtzman and then advanced to the championship round with a 13-11, 11-4, 16-14 win over Timothy Veit of Vassar. In the championships match, Monaghan was matched up with his Fordham teammate,
Alex LaVersa and he defeated LaVersa, 11-4, 11-9 and 11-6.

LaVersa advanced to the championship match by fighting through a tough second  round match with Bard's Jack Smith, winning the first set, 13-11, before dropping the next two , 9-11 and 11-7. But he came back to win the last two, 11-9 and 11-4. LaVersa advanced to the second round with a 7-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 win over Ryan Kurtzman of Vassar in the first round.

Kincade WebsterCarlos Gutierrez also competed in the B division for the Rams, falling to Veit in the first round before winning a five-set match in the second round over Kurtzman, 7-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-2, 11-3, to advance ho the fifth place game where he upended Fordham teammate
Jimmy Shinnick, 11-6, 11-8, 11-8. Shinnick lost to Bard's Smith in the first round, 8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 12-10, before defeating Vassar's David Garfinkel in the second round, 11-8, 11-2, 11-2.

In the C Division, Lennon opened play with a 11-7, 8-11, 11-2, 11-3 win over Vassar's Isabelle Bertram  and then defeated Noah Kulick of Vassar in round two, 11-7, 14-12, 11-5, to move on to the championships. In the championship round, Lennon upended Fordham teammate
Ross Garlick, 11-3, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9.

Garlick advanced to the championship round by defeating Vassar's Samuel Hammer in the first round, 11-8, 11-7 and 11-9, and then bested Bard's Satwik Srikrishnan in the second round, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7.

Fordham's
Kincade Webster and
Jeremy Keller competed in the A division with Kincaide falling in the championship match and Keller winning the fifth place match. Webster opened play with a 11-7, 11-3, 11-5 win over Bard's Matt Lampeter in the first round and a 11-8, 17-15, 11-6 win over Vincent Mencotti of Vassar in the second round. In the championship game, Webster fell to Max McAfferty, 11-7, 11-5, 11-5.

Keller fell in the first round to McAfferty, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4, but defeated Vassar's Hannah Nice in the second round, 11-9, 11-7, 11-3, before taking fifth place with a 11-3, 11-6, 11-6 win over NYU's Adityer Kocher.

The Fordham squash squad will return to action on November 7 and 8 as they travel o Annapolis, Maryland, to participate in the Navy Invitational.
