Men’s Tennis Falls to Fairfield, 6-1

Stamford, Conn. (January 24, 2014) – The Fordham University men's tennis team opened its 2014 spring season with a 6-1 loss to Fairfield University at the Stamford Indoor Tennis Center on Friday.
 
The Rams opened the match taking the doubles point, winning both completed doubles matches. Alastair Barnes and J.J. Tauil opened play by taking second doubles from Ian Desmond and Peter Colliard, 650-4, and a few minutes later, Kuba Kowalski and Matty Nejfeld won at first doubles over Dennis Zlobinsky and Ofir Solomon by the same score.
 
But Fordham couldn't find a wins in singles play, dropping all six matches. Barnes almost picked up a point at third singles for the Rams, dropping the first set to Solomon, 6-4, before winning the second, 6-4. But Solomon squeaked out a win, taking the tiebreaker 7-4 in the third set.
 
Max Peara also went to a third set for Fordham at sixth singles, winning the first set, 6-5 (7-3) over Colliard before dropping the second , 6-3, and the third, 6-0.
 
The Rams return to action on Saturday, February 1, as they face NYIT at Sporttime in Bethpage, NY, at 6:00 PM.
