Results
The Fordham swimming & diving teams were in Piscataway, New Jersey on Saturday competing against multiple teams at Rutgers University. The Fordham women split their two meets, defeating Rider, 214-82, and falling to Rutgers, 169-128, while the men's team fell to both Rider (160-135) and Yale (205-93).
The Rams were led by the duo of Kalena Laurent and
Shintaro Noguchi, as each swimmer won two events and added a second place finish.
Laurent captured both the 100-yard freestyle (54.33) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.88) events, while taking second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.56). Noguchi won both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly in season-best times of 45.96 seconds and 49.54 seconds, respectively. He also took second in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 1:42.57.
Besides Laurent and Noguchi, Fordham had three other event winners in Megan Zarriello, Megan Polaha, and
Steve Sholdra. Zarriello won the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:30.08, while Polaha took home the 100-yard butterfly in 56.98 seconds. Polaha also had a pair of second place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.92) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:34.08). Sholdra's win came in the 500-yard freestyle event in 4:36.96, and added a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:27.03) and a third place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.70).
Other top performers included Kelly Carroll and
Ben Dwyer in the breaststroke events. Carroll was third in the 200-yard event (2:25.34) and fourth in the 100-yard event (1:07.40), while Dwyer took seventh in the 200-yard (2:14.40) and ninth in the 100-yard (1:02.38).
Michael Grimmett-Norris, Morgan Fairclough, and Spencer Chappell were Fordham's top swimmers in the backstroke events. Grimmett-Norris was third in both the 100- (53.86) and 200-yard (1:55.88) events, with Fairclough having the top women's 100-yard time in second place (58.52), while Chappell was second in the 200-yard event (2:06.63).
In the 50-yard freestyle, Megan Gray was the top finisher for the women in fourth place (24.84), with
Joe Mercurio taking second on the men's side in 21.97 seconds. The final top swimming performance came from Zach Jacobsen, who was third in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:12.51.
In diving,
Hanul Moon finished sixth in both the one-meter (220.60) and three-meter (158.60) competitions. On the women's side, Hailey Cox was sixth on the one-meter board (190.45), while Claire Parker was sixth on the three-meter board (192.50).
The final events were the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Fordham took second in the 400 freestyle relay on the women's side (3:36.54) and fourth on the men's side (3:13.81), while in the 200 medley relay, the women were third overall (1:50.01) with the men taking fourth (1:37.95).
The Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on February 1, when the Rams travel to Amherst, Massachusetts for a meet with the Minutemen, beginning at 1:00 PM.
