With a shorthanded squad due to illness, the rest of the Fordham track & field team competed at the NYU Saturday Night Shootout at the Armory Track & Field Center. Wrapping up the final event in the very late hours of the night, the Rams finished 12
th out of 14 teams in both the men's and women's competition.
In the women's competition, the Rams' relays accounted for the majority of the scoring, as the 1600m sprint medley took first place in a time of 4:12.03, while the 4x800 relay placed sixth in 10:19.63. Fordham also had individuals score in the 1,000 meter and 3,000 meter events.
Melissa Higgins finished sixth in the 1,000 meter run in 3:04.02, while
Ariana Bottalico was fifth in the 3,000 meter run in 10:42.60.
The Rams had a number of runners just miss scoring, as Fordham had five ninth place finishes and one more runner who finished tenth.
Danielle Rowe earned ninth in the 400 meter dash in 58.81 seconds, while
Kristen Stuart (2:25.01) and
Diane Bain (2:25.61) were ninth and tenth, respectively, in the 800 meter run.
Kerry Sorenson was ninth in the 1,000 meter run in 3:07.67, with
Sarah Glockenmeier also taking ninth in the mile run in 5:26.90.
The final ninth place finish was the 4x400 relay team in 4:13.93.
In the men's competition, the Rams had scoring in seven different events. The best finish of the day was Brian Walter, who took fifth in the 1,000 meter run in 2:33.29, while the 4x800 relay also grabbed fifth with a time of 8:09.01.
Quincy O'Connor and David Fajoyomi each had a sixth place finish, while Lester Taylor was eighth in the 800 meter run (1:56.75). O'Connor clocked in at 4:21.50 in the mile run, while Fajoyomi took sixth in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles (8.33).
In the field events, Austin Ruiz grabbed seventh place in the shot put with a mark of 46' 5 ¼", while Pat McGuire was eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 43' 2 ¼".
Fordham had five other performances that just missed scoring, as Mike Belgiovine was ninth in the 1,000 meters in 2:37.21, while Ruiz took ninth in the weight throw (41' 11 ½"). Kevin Harvey, Fajoyomi, and Sean Collins each had a tenth place finish, with Harvey in the 3,000 meters (9:03.90), Fajoyomi in the 60 meter dash (7.03), and Collins in the 60 meter hurdles (8.56).
The Fordham track & field teams will next be in action on January 24-25, as the Rams travel to Boston for the Terrier invitational.
