Cross Country Posts Strong Showing at the Fordham Fiasco/Ed Joyce Memorial

Fordham Women Win Division I Competition; Men Take Third Among Division I Teams

On a gorgeous day at Van Cortlandt Park, where the Fordham cross country teams honored the late-Ed Joyce, the Rams put together a great opening competition at the Fordham Fiasco/Ed Joyce Memorial. The Fordham women started the day by placing first out of eight Division I teams, while the men finished the day third out of nine Division I teams.
 
In the first race of the day, Fordham won the team competition with a score of 55 points, as the Rams had five runners in the top 16 finishers.  Monmouth was second with 68 points, followed by Rider (77), Rutgers (87), Fairfield (96), Hartford (115), Fairleigh Dickinson (178), and Saint Peter's (247).
 
Hartford's Megan Barry paced the field individually over the 5K course, as she took first in 18:38.88, followed quickly by Fordham's Anisa Arsenault in second place in 18:46.12.
 
Behind Arsenault for the Rams was Mara Lieberman in tenth place in 19:30.73, followed by Sarah Glockenmeier in 13th (19:33.17), Christina Vivinetto in 14th (19:35.28), Jillian Brooks in 16th (19:46.57), Melissa Higgins in 34th (20:34.05), Kerry Sorenson in 38th (20:46.91), and Amanda Foggia in 51st (21:36.09).
 
Among the lower division schools competing East Stroudsburg took first with a score of 32 points, followed by Southern Maine (46), Philadelphia (86), Elmhurst (107), St. Thomas Aquinas (108), USMMA (202), Dowling (208), Felician (217), Chestnut Hill (267), Dominican (286), and Drew (296).
 
In the men's competition, the Navy men won the Division I competition with a score of 21 points, as the Midshipmen had seven runners in the top 12 finishers.  Rider was second with 55 points, followed by Fordham (76), Fairfield (104), Monmouth (167), Rutgers (176), Hartford (195), Fairleigh Dickinson (224), and Saint Peter's (280).
 
Navy's Stephen Schroeder took first place individually, clocking in at 25:55.51 over the five-mile course, while Rider's Anthony Dentino was second in 26:00.15.
 
Fordham's top finisher was Jonathan Annelli in seventh place with a time of 26:22.22, followed by Quincy O'Connor in 17th (26:50.28).  The trio of Tim Kazanjian (27:09.10), Brian Walter (27:10.44), and Mike Turi (27:10.83) ended up 20th through 22nd respectively with Patrick Burke (28th – 27:29.16) and  Joe Hartnett (42nd - 28:40.25) rounding out the Fordham field.
 
Among the lower division schools competing East Stroudsburg took first with a score of 33 points, followed by Philadelphia (78), USMMA (92), St. Thomas Aquinas (110), Dowling (123), Felician (134), Chestnut Hill (142).
 
The Fordham cross country teams will next be in action on Saturday, September 14th, as the Rams compete in the LIU Post Invitational in Brookville, N.Y.
