Rams Head to Golden Horseshoe Challenge in Morgantown

Live Stats (Navy) | Live Stats (Canisius)

After playing three games to kick off the season last weekend, the Rams are once again prepping for a loaded two days of competition.  Fordham will compete in the Golden Horseshoe Classic in Morgantown, W. Va., beginning on Friday morning.

Hosted by West Virginia University, the field features five formidable squads.  In addition to the Rams and the Mountaineers, Canisius, Navy and Norfolk State will take part in the tournament.

Fordham will commence the tournament with a game against Navy on Friday at 10 AM.  Like the Rams, the Mids dropped two of their first three contests last weekend with losses against UNC-Wilmington and Elon.

After a brief rest, the Rams will take on their first fellow Jesuit institution of the fall, facing off against Canisius at 2 PM.  The Golden Griffins hosted their opening tournament a week ago, but dropped all four games they played.

Day two of the Golden Horseshoe Challenge begins at noon for the Rams, when they square off against host-school West Virginia, the first opponent from a power-six conference that Fordham will have faced this year.  The Mountaineers took first place in the Blue/Gold Invitational at Toledo last weekend, sweeping two of their three matches and taking the other in four sets.

Fordham will close out the Challenge on Saturday afternoon, taking on Norfolk State at 4 PM.  The Spartans enter this weekend with a 1-2 record.

Despite a losing record at Winthrop last weekend, the Rams took quite a few positives from their trip to Rock Hill, S.C.  First, the Rams dominated in their lone win against Savannah State, not allowing the Tigers to reach 20 points in any of the three sets they played.  Against Tennessee Tech on Saturday, a pair of Rams turned in career-best performances.  Senior Lisa Hipp set a new career-high with 22 kills, while sophomore Brennan Delsing achieved a personal best in that same category with 19.
