In a recent event held at Fordham University's McGinley Center, top organizations and student-athletes gathered at an exclusive athlete career forum on Sunday Night.  Fordham was one of 20 athletic programs selected to host the event this semester powered by CareerAthletes.com, the nation's leading professional online network for current and alumni college athletes.

Career Athletes Vice President of Collegiate Relations DJ Washington said it was a great event for all parties involved.

"We knew the caliber of Fordham student-athletes was right in line with the type of individuals leading organizations value, and it was great to see so many student-athletes own and control their future career in one strategic setting," explained Washington

The event began with an impacting message for student-athletes about networking, careers, and building lasting relationships with employers, and ended with an open networking segment for the two parties to engage further discussion.  In between, there were two interactive segments including a national employer panel and professional round-table talks (speed networking).  Each segment of the night allowed for student-athletes to learn directly from employers and graduate schools on how they can better market and differentiate themselves in the competitive workplace.

Attending organizations for the two hour forum were Target, Indeed.com, City Year, University of North Carolina's Master of Accounting Program, TeamGLEAS, Wake Forest University's Master in Management Program, NYPD, Northwestern Mutual, AXA Financial, Federated Insurance, and several representatives of both Fordham Athletics and Career Athletes.

Federated District Marketing Manager, Bob Butkus was an expert panelist for the evening, and gave his perspective on the night compared to the hundreds of other campus-related recruiting events his team attends every year.

"The format was light years ahead of what would be considered a typical career fair, and we got a big bang in a short period of time," said Butkus.  "The panel discussion was great and round-table was awesome. Overall it was a 10 of 10!"
