Cross Country Splits Squad Between Fairfield and Iona Meets

Rams Finish in the Top Three at Fairfield, While Clocking in the Top Ten at Iona

The Fordham cross country team split its squad on Saturday, competing at Fairfield's Leeber Invitational in Connecticut, as well as at Iona's Meet of Champions, held at Van Cortlandt Park. The Rams had a solid showing, as at Fairfield, the men were second of six teams, with the women in third, while at Iona, the Fordham women were eighth out of 20 teams with the men taking ninth.
 
At Fairfield, the Stags finished first in both team competitions.  On the women's side, Fairfield scored 28 points, followed by Sacred Heart (36) and Fordham (76).
 
Sacred Heart's Bri Castrogivanni won the 5K race with a time of 18:43.70.  Fordham's top finisher was Melissa Higgins in 11th place in 20:02.80, quickly followed by Kerry Sorenson in 12th (20:03.80), Suzanne Forlenza in 14th (20:09.30), and Melanie Notarstefano in 17th (20:13.40).
 
Other Ram competitors included Anna Mortimer (27th – 20:35.50), Amanda Foggia (30th – 20:39.10), Shannon McKenna (39th – 21:09.50), Tara Cangialosi (45th - 21:44.00), Danielle Rowe (52nd – 22:04.70), Georgeanne Siller (62nd – 23:10.60), Anna Straughan (63rd - 23:10.90), Claire McGonigle (64th – 23:15.80), and Josephine Jacob-Dolan (67th – 24:00.90).
 
In the men's competition, Fairfield posted the top score of 27 points, followed by Fordham in second with 69 points.
 
Sacred Heart's Chris Connelly won the individual 8K race in 26:07.98.  The Rams were led by Patrick Burke in ninth place, clocking in at 26:55.09, followed by Joe Hartnett in 10th in 27:04.16.
 
Other Fordham competitors were Ryan McGann in 14th (27:31.70), Randall Turner in 17th (28:05.36), Yehia Fahmy in 21st (28:37.86), Kyle Clonan in 23rd (28:47.58), Peter Strom in 24th (28:48.65), and Daniel Green in 27th (28:57.62).
 
At Iona, the Fordham men were ninth out of 20 teams with a score of 284 points with Jonathan Annelli leading the way in 26th place in 26:18.47.   Mike Turi was the next Rams' runner across the line over the 8K course in 48th in 26:44.42, while Quincy O'Connor was 64th in 26:56.75.
 
Other Fordham entries were Kevin Harvey in 88th (27:19.73), Adam Schwenzfeier in 101st (27:31.84), Brian Walter in 102nd (27:31.87), Tim Kazanjian in 106th (27:34.43), and Jake Duckworth in 138th (28:01.91).
 
In the women's competition, Fordham placed eighth out of 20 teams with a score of 219 points.  The Rams were led by Anisa Arsenault in 29th place, as she finished the 6K run in 23:44.18.  Shanna Heaney was Fordham's next finisher in 39th (24:01.01), followed by Sarah Glockenmeier (43rd – 24:04.62), Christina Vivinetto (50th – 24:10.71), Ariana Bottalico (58th – 24:18.06), Jillian Brooks (61st – 24:24.63), Brianna Roche (66th – 24:40.17), and Mara Lieberman (99th – 25:33.03).
 
The Fordham cross country team will next be in action on Friday, October 11th, as the Rams compete in the Metropolitan Championship  at Van Cortlandt Park, beginning at 1:30 PM.
