Cross Country Wins LIU-Post Invitational

Both Men and Women’s Team Capture Team Title

After a successful start to their season last week, the Fordham cross country teams continued that positive start on Saturday, winning both team competitions at the LIU-Post Invitational in Brookville, New York.
 
In the women's competition, Fordham won its second straight team title of the season, scoring 28 points ahead of both Manhattan and St. John's.
 
Two freshmen led the way, as Shanna Heaney and Ariana Bottalico both broke the course record for the LIU-Post meet, which was set by former Fordham runner Kerri Gallagher.  Heaney was the top time among Division I runners, clocking in at 18:09.22, while Bottalico was right behind her at 18:29.14.
 
Fellow freshman Brianne Roche was the next Fordham runner across the line in sixth place in 18:53.32, followed by Melanie Notarstefano (8th – 19:13.67), Suzanne Forlenza (11th – 19:52.49), Danielle Rowe (17th – 20:19.17), Shannon McKenna (18th – 20:21.68), Tara Cangialosi (21st – 20:34.17), Jose Jacob-Dolan (27th – 21:55.83), Claire McGonigle (29th – 22:18.77), and Caroline Straughn (30th - 22:35.57).
 
In the men's competition, Fordham just finished ahead of Manhattan College for the team title with 24 points to Manhattan's 31.
 
Freshman Jake Duckworth was the top Fordham finisher in second place with a time of 25:53.14, followed in by Adam Schwenzfeier in third place (25:56.55) and Kevin Harvey in fourth (26:03.06).
 
Ryan McGann was the next Rams' runner across the line in sixth place (26:22.78), followed by William Slattery (9th – 26:31.28), James Doran (11th – 26:56.13), Randall Turner (13th - 27:26.07), Peter Strom (14th – 27:38.72), Kyle Clonan (16th – 27:55.26), Yehia Fahmy (17th – 28:10.67), Devin Rocks (18th – 28:17.28), Daniel Green (19th - 28:19.34), and John Blake (21st – 28:46.23).
 
The Fordham cross country teams will split up next weekend, as half the team with compete at the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park, while the other half will travel to Fairfield for the Leeber Invitational.  Both meets will be held on Saturday, September 21st.
