The Fordham football Rams closed out their 2013 camp with a scrimmage on Monday night on Jack Coffey Field with both sides of the ball appearing to be just about ready for the season to start.

"Camp is now officially over and we can start to concentrate on Rhode Island and opening night," said head coach Joe Moorhead. "We accomplished a lot during camp and we're looking for that to carry over into the season. The guys worked hard and improved each day which is what we asked of them. Now we start to game plan for our first game."

On offense, quarterbacks Mike Nebrich, Peter Maetzold and Branden Fields completed a majority of their pass attempts with Nebrich hitting senior Brian Wetzel for a touchdown and Maetzold connecting with freshman Jorge Solano for a score.

Freshman running back Kendall Pearcey and junior running back Jared Crayton showed the fans that the running back rotation is deep as each enjoyed a couple of big gains on the ground.

The defense was just as strong as the offense, stopping most running plays for no or little gain and the unit picked off a couple of passes, one by linebacker Stephen Hodge and the other by defensive lineman George Apostolopolous.

On special teams, freshman kicker Makey Redd booted three field goals, two from 20 yards and one from 34 yards.

Following the scrimmage the Rams even practiced singing the Fordham fight song.

Fordham opens the 2013 season on Thursday, August 29, as the Rams host the University of Rhode Island on Jack Coffey Field at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are now on sale by calling the Fordham Ticket Office at 855-RAM-TIXS or online at Fordhamsports.com.
