After the first scrimmage of camp on Thursday night, the Rams were given Friday off to rest and take the team photo. But it was back to work today for the squad which had its second double session of camp.
"We were concentrating on situational awareness today," said head coach Joe Moorhead. "I was pleased that we were able to maintain our effort at a high level today. The offense moved the ball and scored some touchdowns and the defense came up with some big plays on third down conversions."
After the defense controlled the offense during the scrimmage on Thursday, the offense came out today and moved the ball well, maintaining a quick tempo throughout the afternoon session. The offense was able to score on a few red zone drills and picked up first down on third down periods.
The Rams also practiced special team situations today with punt rushers getting experience at taking to the air to block punts.
Notes
Saving Sprints: The Rams were due to run four sprints following the afternoon session but coach Moorhead made a deal in which
Michael Marando and
Michael Cioci would each have two field goal attempts. For each make, one set of sprints would be deducted from the team's total. After Marando missed his first try, Cioci nailed his attempt and then both kickers connected on the two ensuing kicks and Moorhead decided to let the team
off without running. It should also be noted that both players were surrounded by their teammates who were doing their best to distract the kickers.
Padding Practice: After practicing in full pads in the morning, the Rams practiced in just shoulder pads and helmets for the second session.
: The Rams will have a single practice on Sunday followed by a double session on Monday. The next scrimmage is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. on Jack Coffey Field.
