May 21, 2013 - Newport News, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference announced the All-Conference baseball teams this afternoon, as voted upon by the conference's head coaches. Fordham had one award winner on Tuesday, as freshman Joseph Runco (Spring Brook Township, Pa./North Pocono) was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.
It marks the third straight year that Fordham has had an All-Rookie Team selection, as Matthew Cianci got the nod in 2012, while Chris Pike and Tim Swatek garnered All-Rookie honors in 2011.
Runco finished a fine first season with the Rams, leading the team in five major categories, including batting average (.303), runs (34), hits (63), total bases (67), and stolen bases (19). He also had a team-high 16 multi-hit games, while having the team's longest hitting streak of the season at 11 games. In the Atlantic 10, Runco tied for seventh in the league in stolen bases.
Runco, who started all 55 games for Fordham this season, ended the year as the team's leadoff hitter, posting 21 RBI, four doubles, and 18 walks.
In conference play, Runco was one of the top hitters, batting .324 with 13 runs scored, and eight RBI, while posting a perfect fielding percentage in 107 chances.
