Men's Tennis Defeats Hofstra, 4-2

April 14, 2013 - Hempstead, N.Y. - The Fordham University men's tennis team traveled to Long Island on Saturday to face Hofstra University where the Rams used singles wins from Matty Najfeld, Michael Puntillo and Max Peara to bring home a 4-2 win.

Fordham opened the match winning the doubles point, taking two of the three doubles matches. Kuba Kowalski and Matty Najfeld teamed to take second doubles from Matthew Gemmell and Ryhaan Gill, 8-0, while Max Peara and J.J. Tauil defeated Pedro Gimenez and Joseph Erichsen, 8-6.

In singles play, Najfeld and Peara won in straight sets with Najfeld knocking off Matthew Gemmell at second singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Peara upending Gimenez at the sixth position, 6-1, 6-2.

Puntillo needed a third set to defat Gill at fourth singles, taking the first 6-1 before dropping the second, 6-3. But Puntillo came back to take the third, 6-3.

In the other singles matches, Jan Krouham lost the first set to Joseph Erichsen, 7-5, but won the second 6-1 and was leading the third, 3-1, when the match was halted, and Srikar Alla dropped the first set to Ari Richman, 7-6, before winning the second, 6-1 but then fell in the third, 6-3.

The Rams will open the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships on Thursday, April 25.
