Track & Field Competes at the Golden Ram Invitational

West Chester, Pa. - (March 23, 2013) - The Fordham outdoor track & field team was back in action on Saturday in West Chester, Pennsylvania, competing in the Golden Ram Invitational, hosted by West Chester University. Fordham posted five event wins in the competition, as well as 13 other top five finishes.

The Rams' event wins were highlighted by a sweep in the 800 meter run. Kristen Stuart won the women's 800 run with a time of 2:19.19, while Ryan Polo won the men's race in 1:54.78.

Fordham also posted wins in the women's 400 meter hurdles by Melissa Higgins in 1:04.49, the women's high jump by Courtnay Newman with a height of 5' 3 3/4", and the men's 4x400 relay, where the group of Lester Taylor, Michael Bongiorno, John Cosgrove, and Polo posted a time of 3:25.13.

The team earned second place finishes in both the men's 110 meter hurdles and the women's 4x400 relay. David Fajoyomi was second in the hurdles, clocking in at 15.81 seconds, while the group of Higgins, Averie Sheppard, Stuart, and Elise Tigani posted a time of 3:58.78.

Other top performers on the women's side included Mara Lieberman and Rachel Picard finishing third (4:44.49) and fifth (4:55.12) respectively in the 1500 meter run, Sheppard placing fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.01), and Melanie Notarstefano finishing fifth in the 800 meter run. The women's 4x100 relay of Higgins, Sheppard, Stuart, and Tara Cangialosi also had a strong showing, taking fourth in 51.33 seconds.

On the men's side, Brian Walter and Daniel Green joined Polo in the top five of the 800 meter run. Walter was third in 1:57.32 with Green right behind him in fourth in 1:58.05. Fordham also had a 3-4 finish in the 400 meter hurdles with Sean Collins in third (56.33) and Sean Atkinson in fourth (56.58). The remaining top five finishers were Daniel Chediak and Keegan Talty, as both tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 13' 1 1/2".

The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on March 29-30, competing across the country in multiple locations. Select members of the team will be competing at the Stanford Invite and the Raleigh Relays on March 29th, while the rest of the team will be at the Lafayette 7-Way Meet on March 30th.
