Rams Lose to Dukes on Alumni Day

Box Score
It was a night of Fordham legends in the Rose Hill Gym, as Coach Gini Ullery welcomed back several members of the 1,000 Kill and 1,000 Dig Clubs on Alumni Day.  Unfortunately, the Duquesne Dukes spoiled the festivities, downing the Rams 3-1 on Saturday night.

Christi Griffiths ('11), Katie Wells ('11) and Tihana Sarlija ('00) joined current senior Maria Rodenberg in a ceremony during the game commemorating their outstanding careers.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 8-11 on the year, 1-2 in A-10 play.  Duquesne improves to 9-8, 3-1 in the conference.

Lindsay Ritchie led the Rams with 13 kills while Carina Thompson, Brennan Delsing and Lisa Hipp all tallied double digit kill totals.  Rodenberg led Fordham with 13 digs and Sara Konkel chipped in ten.

The Rams came out strong to start the match against the Dukes, opening up a little bit of a lead at 10-7 early in the first set.  Duquesne closed the gap rather quickly, however, knotting the score at 14 after a kill by Taylor Lockett.  The two teams traded points until the Dukes rattled off three straight, taking a three point lead at 19-16.  After a timeout, Fordham narrowed the deficit to two at 21-19, but Duquesne rallied again and closed out the set, 25-20.

Fordham jumped out to a sizeable lead to being the second stanza at 6-2, but Duquesne quickly erased the deficit and tied it up at seven following a 5-1 run.  The Rams battled and climbed ahead again by a large number, forcing a Duquesne timeout at 15-10.  Fordham maintained a lead in that area for the next several points before Duquesne uncorked a 4-0 run, narrowing the Fordham lead to two at 19-17.  After Ullery utilized a timeout, the Rams recovered and ended the set on top 25-22.

The Rams struggled in the third set, falling behind early at 6-2 and finding it difficult to recover.  Fordham would get within four once again midway through the set, but Duquesne kept its foot on the gas and took the set 25-15.

With their back against the wall in the fourth, the Rams hang tough.  The two teams traded points early before Duquesne opened up a slight lead at 13-9.  Fordham battled to close the gap, tying the score at 18 on a kill from Lindsay Ritchie.  Duquesne, however, got a late push, closing out the fourth 25-23.

The Rams will be back in action again on Friday, hosting reigning A-10 champ Dayton in the Rose Hill Gym.
