Men’s Tennis Competes at Columbia Classic

J.J. Tauil Advances to Backdraw Finals

The Fordham University men's tennis squad competed at the Columbia Classic from October 4-6 where J.J. Tauil had the most success, advancing to the finals of the C Singles Backdraw.
 
Tauil opened the classic by falling to NJIT's Erik Anderson in the first round, 6-2, 6-2, but came back to defeat Eric Jacobs of Columbia in the backdraw semifinals, 6-3, 5-6 (6), 10-5.  But Tauil would end up falling to Dartmouth's Blake Niehaus in the finals, 6-5 (4), 6-4.
 
Other Rams competing in the Columbia Classic included Kuba Kowalski and Matty Najfeld, who both fell in the first round of the A Singles bracket. Kowalski took the first set from Vaidik Munshaw 6-4, but dropped the second, 6-4 and the third, 6-2. Najfeld also took his match to three sets, losing the first to FDU's Arvis Berzins, 6-0, before winning the second, 6-3. But Berzins rebounded to win the third set, 6-3.
 
Both Kowalski and Najfeld lost backdraw matches with Kowalski falling to UTA's Marek Pasicka, 6-3, 6-2, and Najfeld dropping a 6-5 (4), 6-2 decision to Lorenzo Rossi of Marist.
 
Max Peara also competed in C Singles, dropping his opening match to Trymm Nagelstadt of Marist, 6-3, 6-2.
 
In doubles play, Kowalski and Najfeld dropped a quarterfinal match to Columbia's Richard Pham and Mike Vermeer, 8-5, in A Doubles, while Tauil and Michael Puntillo fell in B Doubles to Matteo Gudici and Dylan Fletcher from Marist, 8-2.
