Cross Country Hosts Metropolitan Championship

Fordham Men Place Third, While Women Take Fourth

The Fordham cross country teams were back in action on Friday, as the Rams hosted the 85th edition of the Metropolitan Cross Country Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.  The Rams had a solid showing as the women placed fourth out of 12 teams, while the men were third out of 11 squads.
 
In the opening race of the day, the Columbia women captured the Metropolitan title with a score of 25 points, placing five runners in the top ten.  NYU took second place with 64 points, followed by Rutgers (78), Fordham (91), Manhattan (176), Wagner (206), Seton Hall (216), St. John's (231), Fairleigh Dickinson (232), St. Francis (NY) (237), Hofstra (262), and St. Peter's (371).
 
In addition to the team title, Columbia also had the individual winner, as Madeline Rathbun won the 5K race with a time of 18:24.66, while her teammate, Pegah Kamrani was second in 18:28.27.  Fordham's Anisa Arsenault took bronze, as she was third in 18:29.38.
 
Aside from Arsenault, Christina Vivinetto was the next Ram across the line in 17th place, finishing in 17th place in 19:15.57, while Sarah Glockenmeier was 21st in 19:25.84.  Jillian Brooks was also in the top 25 in 25th place in 19:35.83 with Kerry Sorenson rounding out the Rams' scoring in 32nd place in 19:50.41.
 
In the men's event, NYU won the team title with a score of 24 points, as the Violets as five runners in the top ten, including the first three finishers.
 
Columbia placed second with 66 points, followed by Fordham (98), Rutgers (119), Manhattan (150), Wagner (173), Hofstra (186), Seton Hall (199), Fairleigh Dickinson (243), St. Francis (NY) (314), and St. Peter's (325).
 
Individually, NYU's Dylan Karten won the 8K race in 26:01.44.  Fordham was led by Mike Turi, who finished ninth overall in 26:30.48, while Quincy O'Connor was 17th overall in 26:54.33.  Fordham then finished the team scoring with the trio of Tim Kazanjian (26:59.09), Adam Schwenzfeier (27:00.87) and Patrick Burke (27:03.85) placing 23rd, 24th, and 25th, respectively.
 
The Fordham cross country teams are next in action on October 19th at the Princeton Invitational.
