BRONX, N.Y.-Â Coming off a win on Saturday night against George Mason, the Fordham Rams fell in five sets to Stony Brook in the Rose Hill Gym on Tuesday night.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 8-10 on the year while Stony Brook improves to 6-11.

Lisa Hipp led the Rams with 19 kills and 20 digs on the evening.Â
Brennan Delsing added 15 kills and
Brianna O'Neil chipped in 12, while
Sara Konkel tallied 52 assists, 12 digs and a career-high four aces.

The Rams and Seawolves appeared evenly matched early in the first set, with the two teams working their way into an 8-8 tie. The Rams opened up a bit of a run in the middle of the set, as three Delsing kills helped move Fordham ahead by five at 17-12. Stony Brook then mounted a comeback effort, narrowing the Fordham advantage to just two at 18-16. From there, however, Fordham proved able to close out the set, taking seven out of the remaining twelve points and coming out on top 25-21. Delsing had six kills in the set, while Hipp added five kills and six digs.

Stony Brook came alive at the beginning of set number two, jumping out to a 9-4 lead and forcing a timeout from
Gini Ullery. After the stoppage, the Rams worked their way back into the set, knotting the score at 11. With the score tied, the Seawolves uncorked another run, moving ahead 17-13 and eliciting another timeout from the Fordham bench. The Rams slowly chipped away at the Stony Brook lead following the timeout, eventually tying the score at 21. Unfortunately for Fordham, the Seawolves then scored four in a row, taking the set 25-21.

The Seawolves took a 9-5 lead early in the third, but the Rams quickly got back in it with a 4-0 streak to tie the score. The two squads traded points over the next several minutes, with the scoring eventually knotting at 15.  With the scored tied, the Rams rattled off three consecutive points to take the lead at 18-15, but Stony Brook answered right back with three of their own to tie it at 18. From there, Stony Brook controlled the remainder of the set, winning it 25-22.

Down 2-1 and in need of a win, Fordham battled back in the fourth set. After the two teams traded points until the score was tied at 12, Fordham jumped ahead, using a 6-1 tear to gain an 18-13 lead. Fordham maintained their advantage for the rest of the set, taking the fourth 25-17 and forcing a decisive fifth frame.

Stony Brook got out to an early 4-1 lead in the fifth set, forcing a Fordham timeout. The Rams tallied the first two points out of the pause in the action, narrowing the deficit to one. Stony Brook, however, never surrendered the lead, eventually moving ahead by four at 10-6 after a Kathy Fletcher ace. Fordham cut the lead to three on the ensuing possession, but that would be as close as the Rams got. Stony Brook won the set 15-9 and took the match 3-2.

The Rams will be back in action on Saturday, October 5
th, when they host the Duquesne Dukes on Alumni Day at 7 PM. A pregame reception will be held in the McGinley center for all alumni and friends of the program in addition to a halftime ceremony honoring members of the 1,000 Kill and 1,000 Dig Clubs.
