New Haven, Conn. - (Jan. 12, 2013)- A very successful weekend for the Fordham track & field team wrapped up on Saturday at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut. The Rams added to their ECAC/IC4A qualifier total with three new additions, while posting ten top five finishes.
The Rams had three ECAC/IC4A qualifying times, led by both 4x800 relay squads. The women's 4x800 relay of Melissa Higgins, Jillian Brooks, Kristen Stuart, and Titi Fagade won the event in an ECAC qualifying time of 9:18.45, while the men's team of Brian Walter, Lester Taylor, Daniel Green, and Sean Atkinson placed in second in an IC4A qualifying time of 7:44.04.
The final qualifier came in the men's distance medley relay, as Fordham's group of John Cosgrove, Sean Collins, Michael Rossi, and Ryan Polo took fourth in an IC4A time of 10:10.22.
The Rams' final relay of the afternoon was the women's 4x400 team, as the group of Coral Hershkovitz, Nicole Ragucci, Averie Sheppard, and Melanie Notarstefano placed fourth in 4:03.63.
Individually, the Rams had six top five finishes, led by Nick Synan and Jonathan Annelli in the men's 3,000 meter run. Synan was second in 8:40.60 with Annelli taking fifth in 8:46.62. Fordham also had two runners in the top five of the women's 800 meter run. Mara Lieberman placed third in 2:19.26 with Suzanne Forlenza grabbing fifth in 2:23.73. The Rams' other top five finishes were by Sam Houston in the 400 meter dash (5th - 50.66) and Mike Turi in the mile run (5th - 4:23.08).
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on January 25-26, as the Rams compete in the 2013 Metropolitan Championship.
