Bronx, N.Y. - The weather gods turned the annual Fordham Fiasco cross country meet into a true fiasco, with heavy rains and winds hampering the women's race and turning the Van Cortland Park course into a muddy mesh, but the event went off as scheduled with the Fordham men placing second among NCAA Division I school and the women taking fourth.
Anisa Arsenault was the top Fordham women's finisher, placing fifth while Nick Synan was the first Fordham male across the line, placing eighth.
Yale won both the men's and women's Division I race. The Eli men scored 18 points, followed by Fordham (64), Rider (67), Rutgers (102), Manhattan (158) and Saint Peter's (168). On the women's side, Yale finished with 17 points, followed by Rider (58), Fordham (62) and Saint Peter's (120).
In the men's Division II, III and junior college event, East Stroudsburg paced the 13-team field with 25 points, followed by Ramapo (91), Stockton (107), Philadelphia (111) and Rowan (150). On the women's side Rowan was the first of 12 teams with 47 points followed by East Stroudsburg (84), Philadelphia (121), Stockton (131) and St. Thomas Aquinas (132).
The men's Division I race was won by Matt Nussbaum from Yale. He covered the five-mile course in a time of 26:10.53.
Yale had six of the top seven finishers with Kevin Lunn (26:12.90) placing second, Kevin Dooney (26:24.70) fourth, Tim Hillas (26:27.62) fifth, Jacob Sandry (26:30.13) sixth and Demetri Goutos (26:32.84). Rider's Anthony Dentino was the only non-Yale runner among the top seven, placing third in 26:18.69.
Synan was the top Fordham finisher, placing eighth in 26:34.65 while freshman teammate Mike Turi was right behind him, taking ninth in 26:37.62 and Yale's John McGowan took tenth (26:55.23). Other Rams who scored include Michael Belgiovine, who placed 16th in 27:18.13, Quincy O'Connor, who was 20th in 27:22.84 and Joe Hartnett, who took 21st in 27:24.23.
Other men running for Fordham include Kevin Harvey (22nd - 27:26.52), Jonathan Annelli (26th - 27:36.25), Patrick Burke (32nd - 27:58.21), Devin Kelly (38th - 28:23.60), William Slattery (48th - 28:52.47), James Doran (49th - 28:53.88), Conor O'Malley (52nd - 29:10.70) and Ben Delikat (53rd - 29:13.99).
On the women's side, Yale had the top four finishers in the Division I event with Melissa Chapman winning the 5K race in a time of 18:19.32 followed by teammates Elizabeth Marvin (18:24.12), Emily Stark (18:37.56) and Caitlin Hudson (18:41.35).
Arsenault placed fifth for Fordham in 19:20.56 while Rider's Megan Elgin (19:24.52), Yale's Sarah Barry (19:28.42) and Jennifer Donnelly (19:44.79), Rider's Jillian Shutt (19:48.92) and Yale's Hannah Alpert (19:50.50) rounded out the top ten. Other Rams who scored for the women included
Suzy Sikorski, who was 12th in 20:02.78,
Melanie Notarstefano, who was right behind Sikorski in 13th place in 20:08.45,
Mara Lieberman, who placed 16th in 20:13.04 and
Sarah Glockenmeier, who was 20th overall in 20:36.42.

The Fordham cross country squads will next be in action next Saturday, September 15th, as they compete in the C.W. Post Invitational in Brookville, N.Y., at 10:30 a.m.
