Boston, Mass. - (Feb. 10, 2012) - The Fordham women's track & field team took center stage on day one of the Valentine's Day Classic, hosted by Boston University, as all 11 Ram competitors registered career-best performances, led by a school record performance by sophomore Titi Fagade in the 500 meters.
The day began with the women's 400 meter dash with a trio of Rams posting career-best times. Melissa Higgins was the top finisher in 20th place with a time of 57.76 seconds. Elisabeth Warren and Averie Sheppard then placed 25th and 26th respectively in 58.04 and 58.08 seconds.
Then in the 500 meters, Fagade earned third overall, posting a school record time of 1:12.89, smashing the previous mark of 1:14.50, set by Maureen Zivic in 2006. Kelly Connolly finished right behind Fagade in fourth place, posting an ECAC qualifying time of 1:15.35, while Kristen Stuart registered her best time of the year to finish eighth in 1:16.26.
Next in the 1000 meters, Jillian Brooks recorded her best time of the season, 3:03.45, which was good for 39th overall.
Fordham had a trio of runners in the mile, led by Erin Lunny, who just missed an ECAC qualifying time, running a career-best 5:00.17 to place 30th. Anisa Arsenault (44th - 5:05.20) and Mara Lieberman (53rd - 5:07.59) also posted their career-best marks in the mile.
Higgins and Stuart were back for a final run in the 200 meter dash, as Higgins was 71st overall in 26.67 seconds, while Stuart was 83rd in 26.86 seconds.
The Rams' final competitor was Emily Osman in the 800 meter run, as she took 43rd in a career-best time of 2:17.68.
The Fordham men's track & field team will be in action on day two of the Valentine's Day Classic on Saturday with the Rams' first event coming at 1:15 PM. Fordham will also be competing at the Millrose Games on Saturday at the Armory Track & Field Center. The Rams will be featured in both the men's and women's Metropolitan 4x400 relay event, which is set for 6:15 PM and 6:45 PM, respectively.
