Bronx, N.Y. - (Dec. 7, 2012) - In its lone home meet of the season, the Fordham track & field team hosted eight other teams at the Fordham Season Opener, held in the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse. The dual scoring meet would see the Rams win five individual events, while one school record fell.
The highlight of the meet came from graduate student Nicole Ragucci as she was a dual event winner. She opened the meet by winning the pole vault event with a school record height of 10' 6", breaking the old mark of 10'4" set by Maggie McGowan in 2009, and then tied last week by Ragucci and freshman Emma Cleary. Ragucci came back later in the meet to win the 400 meter dash in a time of 58.6 seconds.
Besides Ragucci, Titi Fagade won the 800 meter run in 2:19.4, while Kristen Stuart placed third in that event in 2:22.4.
Other top women's performers were Courtnay Newman, who tied for second in the high jump at 5' 3", Emma Cleary, who was second in the pole vault at 10' 0", and Kellen Fitzgerald, who was fifth in the 1000 meter run in 3:15.0.
On the men's side, Sean Atkinson led the way by winning the 800 meter run in 1:58.7, while newcomer Lester Taylor won the 1000 meter run in 2:35.7.
The Rams had four other top three finishes on the day, as Keegan Talty was second in the pole vault at 14' 6", Sam Houston was second in the high jump, clearing 6' 4 3/4",and Austin Ruiz took second in the shot put (46' 8 1/4") and fifth in the weight throw events (46' 5 1/2"). Daniel Green was the final top finisher, taking third in the 1000 meters in 2:37.9.
