Cross Country Hosts ECAC/IC4A Championship

Bronx, N.Y. - (Nov. 17, 2012) - The Fordham cross country teams wrapped up their 2012 season on Saturday, as the Rams played host to the annual ECAC/IC4A Cross Country Championship at Van Cortlandt Park.

The day began with the women's 5K coaches' race, as Delaware's Jessica Olsen took home top honors in 20:04.07. Fordham was led in the coaches' race by Rachel Picard, who finished seventh in 20:57.2, while Shannon McKenna was eighth in 21:06.5.

The next event was the men's 8K coaches' race, where George Mason's Josh Schlickenmeyer took first place in 26:54.6. The Rams were led by William Slattery, who placed fourth in the coaches' race in 27:22.9, while James Doran was 10th in 27:54.9.

The women's championship event saw James Madison win the team title with a score of 54, followed by Columbia in second place with 94, and Princeton in third with 108. The Dukes had the top two finishers in the race, as Katie Gorman recorded the top time of 17:50.5 while teammate Katie Harman was second in 17:57.2.

In the men's championship event, Georgetown captured the team title with a score of 45, as the Hoyas had three runners finish in the top ten. George Mason was second with 56 points, followed by Saint Joseph's in third with a score of 77. The Hoyas' Bobby Peavy won medalist honors, taking home gold in 25:08.5, just ahead of La Salle's Alfredo Santana (25:11.9).

The day concluded with the University Division races, which began with Sacred Heart taking home the women's ECAC Championship with a score of 73 points. The chase for second was a tight one, but George Mason edged out Fordham for second, as the Patriots scored 120 to the Rams' 124.

Individually, George Mason's Bethany Sachtleben won the race in a time of 18:04.3, followed by Sacred Heart's Alyssa Selmquist (18:12.6) and Brianna Castrogivanni (18:24.6) in second and third place, respectively.

Fordham was led by Anisa Arsenault, who took fourth overall in a time of 18:28.0, while Danielle Drummond was the next Ram across the line, taking 18th in 19:06.8. Suzy Sikorski placed 27th in 19:21.1, followed by Mara Lieberman in 30th (19:26.8), Ashley Davis in 46th (19:47.4), Melissa Higgins in 50th (19:48.1), and Jillian Brooks in 61st (19:58.4). Other competitors for Fordham included Christina Machado (68th - 20:02.2), Christina Vivinetto (71st - 20:06.9), Kerry Sorenson (73rd - 20:08.0), Sarah Glockenmeier (91st - 20:25.4) and Amanda Foggia (122nd - 21:02.1).

The final race of the IC4A Championship was the most exciting as a one-second difference was all that separated Fairfield from Fordham with the Stags winning the University Division title by one point, 58-59. Behind the Stags and Rams, Rutgers earned bronze with 108 points.

Individually, Colgate's Christopher Johnson won medalist honors, as he clocked in at 25:28.8 over the 8K course. Fairfield's Howard Rosas was second in 26:05.7, followed by Fordham's Ryan Polo in third (26:13.3).

Besides Polo, Nick Synan and Jonathan Annelli finished ninth and tenth, respectively in 26:27.5 and 26:28.6, followed by Michael Belgiovine in 18th (26:44.9) and Mike Turi in 19th (26:45.5). Other Fordham competitors included Kevin Harvey (25th - 26:57.2), Quincy O'Connor (28th - 26:58.7), Devin Kelly (62nd - 27:46.3), Ben Delikat (63rd - 27:46.6), Joe Hartnett (80th - 28:07.3), and Patrick Burke (91st - 28:29.7).
