Queens, N.Y. - (Oct. 14, 2012) - A day after some of their teammates competed successfully at the Tribe Open, the rest of the Fordham University cross country squad ran at the 2012 St. John's Fall Festival with equal success as both the Fordham men and women captured the team title. Michael Belgiovine led the men, winning the individual title, while Jillian Brooks was the top women's finisher with a third place showing.
Belgiovine covered the 5K course in a winning time of 16:28.10, easily beating teammate Joe Hartnett to the line as Hartnett finished second in 16:50.92.
Right behind Hartnett was Devin Kelly, who took third in 17:01.03, followed by William Slattery, who was fourth in 17:18.60, and James Doran, who took fifth in 17:22.49.
Other men competing included Patrick Burke (sixth - 17:27.75), Kyle Clonan (seventh - 17:45.26), Lester Taylor (eighth - 18:03.64), Yehia Fahmy (ninth - 18:07.50), Michael Bongiorno (tenth - 18:08.48), Daniel Green (11th - 18:08.96), John Cosgrove (12th - 18:09.22), Michael Rossi (13th - 18:12.05) , John Blake (14th - 18:13.57) , John Byrne (16th - 18:35.52), Sean Collins (18th - 18:38.64) and Sean Atkinson (20th - 19:40.82).
The Rams won the men's race with 15 points, ahead of runner-up Hofstra who scored 45 points.
In the women's team competition, Fordham won with 32 points followed by St. John's (37) and Hofstra (56).
Rebecca Celorio won the individual title, covering the 4K course in a time of 15:38.05. Brooks was just over 13 seconds behind the leader, taking third in 15:51.38.
Christina Machado was right on Brooks' heals, placing fourth in 15:53.35 while Kerry Sorenson was fifth in 15:55.36. The other two scorers for Fordham were Ashley Davis, who placed eighth in 16:06.04 and Amanda Foggia, who was 12th in 16:18.23.
Also competing for the Fordham women were Rachel Picard (14th - 16:35.90), Titi Fagade (15th - 16:40.10), Danielle Rowe (18th - 16:45.81), Shannon McKenna (19th - 16:46.15), Mackenzie Dancho (23rd - 17:35.36), Tara Cangialosi (24th - 17:36.25), Kristen Stuart (25th - 17:53.19), Kellen Fitzgerald (27th - 17:57.32), Coral Hershkovitz (29th - 18:23.50), Elise Tigani (38th - 19:37.82) and Melanie Notarstefano (39th - 19:39.32).
The Rams return to action on Saturday, October 27th as they compete at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championships at Belmont Park in Philadelphia beginning at 10:00 a.m.
