Bronx, N.Y. - (Sept. 10, 2011) - It was perhaps the largest cross country meet ever hosted by Fordham University with over 30 schools appearing at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday. And to make things even more special, the Rams had a special pre-race ceremony to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the attacks of September 11th that featured Representative Peter King, a high school friend of Fordham head coach
Tom Dewey.
The festivities began with the National Anthem and the presentation of colors by the Fordham ROTC under the direction of Cadet Alex Deardorf. Following the anthem, Sister Regina De Vitto, CND, a member of Fordham's Campus Ministry, made the invocation before King delivered his remarks and started the first race of the day. King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee who represents New York's 3rd congressional district, is a high school friend of Dewey.
All runners wore a special 9/11 commemorative ribbon produced by members of the Fordham team.
