Cross Country Hosts 2011 ECAC/IC4A Championship

Bronx, N.Y. - (Nov. 19, 2011) - The Fordham cross country season came to a conclusion on Saturday, as the Rams once again played host to the ECAC/IC4A Championship at Van Cortlandt Park. A total of six races were held with the Binghamton men and Albany women winning the University Division races, while the Princeton men and Iona women captured the Championship Division titles.

The opening race was the women's 5k Coaches race, which was won by La Salle's Courtney Cramer in a time of 19:34. Host Fordham had two competitors finish in the top ten, as Christina Vivinetto placed fifth in 20:01, while Brianna Tevnan was right behind her in sixth place in 20:07.

In the men's five-mile Coaches race, La Salle had the top five finishers, led by Ian Barnhill's time of 27:03. Host Fordham had two runners finish in the top 15, as Rich Grandelli placed ninth overall in 27:37, while Andrew Roddin was 13th in 27:41.

The next event was the men's IC4A Championship Division race, where Princeton won the team title, scoring 50 points, followed by Albany (121), La Salle (145), Syracuse (168), Duquesne (190) and Saint Joseph's (190). Individually, Princeton's Joe Stilin won gold medalist honors with a time of 24:47, with La Salle's Nick Crits (24:51) and Alfredo Santana (24:55) in second and third place, respectively.

In the women's ECAC Championship Division event, it was Iona receiving the team title, scoring 56 points. The Gaels finished ahead of La Salle (83), Syracuse (95), James Madison (108), and Duquesne (134) to round out the top five. Individually, James Madison's Katie Harman won medalist honors, crossing the finish line in 17:29, followed by La Salle's Meghan McGlinchey (17:38) and Caitlin Storbeck (17:42).

The men's IC4A University Division then took center stage where the host school Fordham was just edged out by Binghamton for the team title. The Bearcats scored 35 points to Fordham's 60, as the Rams' were looking for their third IC4A University Division title overall, and first since 2006. Fairfield (109), Monmouth (167), and Temple (189) rounded out the top five.

Fordham's Julian Saad did give the Rams' their first-ever individual winner at the IC4A Cross Country Championship, as he crossed the line in first place in 25:28, a full nine seconds ahead of second place finisher Jeffrey Lusignan of Sacred Heart (25:39).

Brian Riley gave Fordham two finishers in the top ten, as he placed tenth in 26:17, while Nick Synan (14th - 26:26), Kevin Fitzgerald (17th - 26:34), and Michael Belgiovine (18th - 26:36) also scored for the Rams.

The final event was the women's ECAC University Division race, where Albany won both the team and individual title. The Great Danes scored 109 points, just ahead of Marist (119), Towson (159), Sacred Heart (176), and Delaware (195). Host Fordham finished eighth of 22 schools with a score of 212.

Individually, Albany's Kathryn Fanning won the race in 18:06, followed by Marist's Michelle Gaye (18:15) and Sacred Heart's Brittney Lane (18:22). Fordham's Anisa Arsenault finished just off Fanning's pace, as she finished fifth overall in 18:30. Other Fordham scorers included Ashley Davis (32nd - 19:11), Emily Osman (36th - 19:14), Mairin O'Connor (57th - 19:27), and Danielle Drummond (82nd - 19:48).
