Cross Country Runs at NCAA Northeast Championships

Buffalo, N.Y. - (Nov. 12, 2011) - The Fordham University men's and women's cross country squad competed today at the 2011 NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Championships at the Audubon Golf Course where the men placed 13th of 33 teams and the women 30th of 36 teams.

Leading the Fordham men was Julian Saad, who took 32nd overall, covering the 10K course in a time of 32:21.4, 5:13 behind the winner.

Also scoring for the Rams were Kevin Fitzgerald, who was 55th in 32:45.9, Brian Riley, who placed 90th in 33:22.6, Michael Belgiovine, who was 110th in 33:35.5 and Brian Walter, who took 142nd in 34:11.4.

Also racing for the Fordham men were Ryan Polo (148th - 34:21.8) and Sam Stuart (166th - 34:41.5).

Syracuse won the men's team title with a score of 54, followed by Iona (72), Columbia (96), Providence (108) and Brown (178). Fordham placed 13th with 415 points, three ahead of Boston College.

Iona's Leonard Korir won the individual title in a time of 31:10.4, followed by David McCarthy of Providence (31:13.1), Brown's Dan Lowry (31:21.1), Patrick Dupont of Syracuse (31:21.4) and Iona's Mitch Goose (31:28.0).

The top women's runner for the Rams was Anisa Arsenault, who placed 107th, running the 6K course in a time of 23:06.6.

Also scoring for the Fordham women were Danielle Drummond, who was 170th in 24:06.1, Sarah Glockenmeier, who finished 180th in 24:18.0, Mairin O'Connor, who took 183rd in 24:22.1, and Emily Osman, who was 190th in 24:31.3.

Also running for the Fordham women were Nako Nakatsuka (20th - 24:53.3) and Ashley Davis (207th - 24:54.5).

Syracuse also won the women's team championship with a score of 116 followed by Boston College (127), Cornell (137), Columbia (151) and Providence (163). The Rams placed 30th with a score of 825, just six points behind St. John's.

Dartmouth's Abbey D'Agostino captured the women's individual title in a time of 20:25.3, followed by Lauren Penney of Syracuse (20:39.1), Iona's Hollie Rowland (20:40.2), Hayley Green of Stony Brook (20:42.5) and Columbia's Waverly Neer (20:44.6).

The cross country squads will return to action next Saturday, November 19th, as they compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park at 9:30 a.m.
