Bronx, N.Y. - (Sept. 18, 2010) - The Fordham men's tennis team brought high energy into its opening two matches of the 2010-11 season, as the Rams hosted St. Peter's College and Siena College on Saturday at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts. Fordham however would get outlasted in both, falling to St. Peter's, 6-1, and Siena, 5-2.

In the opening match against St. Peter's, sophomore Alex DeRienzo earned the Rams' lone point with a victory at second singles, topping Eawin Huisman, 4-6, 6-2, and 10-7.

Against Siena, the Rams opened the match by earning the doubles point in comeback fashion. After Austin Shoup and Eli Plangger won their third doubles match, 8-5, the team of Nick Kelly and John Thornhill came all the way back from a 7-3 deficit to win their match, 9-8, with a 7-4 tiebreaker.

Singles play though went against the Rams, as four of the six singles matches went the distance. Ken Fukumoto began singles play, by earning a point for Fordham with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Vik Kadaba at fifth singles. Thornhill (2nd), Shoup (3rd), Kevin Maolney (4th), and Plangger (6th) however just missed capturing the match for the Rams, as all fell in the deciding final set.

The Fordham men's tennis team will next be in action on Wednesday, September 29th, when it travels to Fairfield, Conn., to face the Fairfield Stags 3:00 PM.
