Pittsburgh, Pa. - (Oct. 30, 2010) - The Fordham cross country teams took part in the first Atlantic 10 Championship of the season on Saturday at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Though shorthanded due to injuries, the Fordham men's team finished ninth out of 14 teams, while the women were 12th out of 14 squads.
The Richmond men's and women's team won the respective Atlantic 10 Championships, with scores of 43 and 51 points. The Fordham men scored 223 points, while the women's team posted a score of 293.
On the men's side, Fordham's Michael Belgiovine earned the league's top rookie honor as the lead freshman, finishing 25th overall in a time of 25:30 over the 8K course. He was followed in by fellow freshmen Ryan Polo in 46th (25:53) and Brian Walter in 49th (25:56), while juniors Brian Riley and Kevin Fitzgerald placed in 47th (25:54) and 56th (26:10) overall.
Also competing for Fordham, sophomore Julian Saad scored in 57th place (26:10), followed by freshman Kevin Harvey (70th - 26:30), sophomore Nick Synan (97th - 26:46), junior Sam Stuart (101st - 26:53), and senior Patrick McDonough (109th - 27:00).
On the women's side, senior Kerri Gallagher led the way in 28th place in a time of 18:26, with freshman Anisa Arsenault right behind her in 30th place in a time of 18:27. Arsenault's time was the fastest by a Fordham freshman at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
Sophomore Ashley Davis scored in 76th place in 19:42, followed by freshman Kerry Sorenson (79th (19:56), junior Nako Nakatsuka (80th - 20:00), junior Kerry Kwalwasser (81st - 20:01), and senior Johanne Sterling (83rd - 20:08).
The Fordham cross country teams will next be in action on Saturday, November 13th, when they compete at the NCAA District Regional at Hammonasset State Park in Madison, Connecticut.
