New London, Conn. - (Jan. 25, 2010) - The Fordham squash team finally broke into the win column this past weekend in New London, Connecticut. The Rams topped Bryant University by a 6-3 count in the first of three matches this past weekend. The Rams however dropped their other two matches to MIT and Connecticut College by a 9-0 count.
The Rams are now 1-10 on the season.
Against Bryant, the Rams got opening victories by Colin Corbett at the number one slot over Yohan Sachdev in four sets, while Eli Plangger got the win at the third slot over Brent Besch in straight sets.
Fordham then rallied for four victories in the bottom five spots, highlighted by a five-set win by Andrew Craig over Pablo Madera at the ninth slot. Andrew Grosner (fifth), Ken Fukumoto (sixth), and Nick Reed (seventh) also recorded wins for the Rams.
Against MIT, the Rams were swept in seven of the nine matches, while Andriy Kulak (second) and Reed (seventh) fell in four sets.
Against Central Connecticut, Plangger played Connecticut College's Jeremy Wong close for three games, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7, but could not secure a win for Fordham.
The Fordham squash team will next be in action on February 10, as they play at Bard College, beginning at 6:00 PM.
