Haverford, Pa. - (December 7, 2008) - The Fordham University squash team saw its two-game winning streak snapped at Haverford College on Saturday as the Rams fell to the Fords, 7-2, and to Penn State, 8-1, on the GIAC Squash Courts.
In the Haverford march, Peter Jang won at the second position for Fordham, upending Zef Konst, 3-1. After Konst took the first set, 9-3, Jang came back to win the next three by scores of 9-3, 9-6 and 9-4.
The other winner for the Rams was Brandon Abbatiello, who took the fifth position from Jake Ralston in straight sets (9-2, 9-3, 9-3).
Colin Corbett almost picked up a third win for Fordham, dropping the first two sets at the seventh spot to David Barnat before coming back to win the third and fourth sets by identical 9-4 scores. But Barnet rebounded to take the fifth and deciding set, 9-7.
In the Penn State match, Teddy Cronin won the lone Fordham point, defeating Vinet Godha, 3-2. Cronin won the first (9-4) and second sets (9-5) before Godha took sets three (9-5) and four (9-6), forcing a fifth set. Cronin was victorious in the fifth set by a 9-6 tally.
The Rams almost picked up points at the first, fifth and seventh positions as Mike Hennessy (first), Abbatiello (fifth) and Colin Corbett (seventh) all fell in five sets.
The Rams will next be in action on January 31st as they travel to Cambridge, Mass., to face MIT, Northeastern and Bryant.
