Bronx, N.Y. - (Nov. 15, 2008) - Members of the men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Meet at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday. The Rams ran seven men and three women in the competition, as the men placed 24th out of 33 teams, while the women did not enter enough competitors to receive a team score.
In the men's team competition, Iona placed first with a score of 46, followed by Providence (88), Columbia (103), and Dartmouth (122). Fordham finished 24th out of 33 teams with a score of 681.
Leading the way for Fordham, freshman Brian Riley placed 101st overall in 34:28.6 over the 10K course as the Rams' top finisher. Junior Tim Hartnett was the next finisher in 145th (35:29.6), followed by sophomore Casey Barrett in 147th (35:32.0), senior Tom Papain in 150th place (35:35.7), junior Brian Horowitz in 160th (35:44.5), freshman Sam Stuart in 190th (36:28.9) and freshman Kevin Fitzgerald in 215th place (37:28.5).
In the women's competition, Fordham ran only three runners and did not record a team score. Senior Brigid Moriarty was the top Fordham finisher in 85th place over the 6K course in 23:25.6. Sophomore Kerri Gallagher was 104th overall in 23:42.4 with senior Jacqueline Prevete finishing in 165th place (24:37.9).
The Fordham cross country teams will wrap up their 2008 season next weekend on Saturday, November 22nd, as they host the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park.
