Fairfield, Conn. - (Sept. 30, 2007) - The Fordham cross country teams returned to action this weekend at the Victor F. Leeber Invitational, hosted by Fairfield University. The Rams had an excellent showing, as both the men and women finished second out of seven teams.
On the men's side, Fordham finished second with a score of 32, just one point behind Sacred Heart for the team title. Individually, senior Matt Lowenthal won the 8K run in a time of 27:17.70, while sophomore Tim Hartnett took fourth overall (27:26). Three seniors then placed eighth, ninth, and tenth, as Matt Flynn (28:01), Tom Finnerty (28:03), and Justin Kopunek (28:11) came across the line. Freshmen Casey Barrett (12th - 28:16) and Tim Burke (13th - 28:22) rounded out Rams in the top 15 finishers.
On the women's side, Fordham finished second with a score of 42, just three points behind Sacred Heart for the team title. Sacred Heart's Dana Troy won the individual title in 19:28.17.
For Fordham, senior
Melissa Salerno was the top finisher in fourth in a time of 20:02, while junior
Brigid Moriarty was fifth in 20:03. Sophomore
Emily Kolodgy placed tenth overall (20:50), followed by junior
Jacqueline Prevete in 11th (20:56) and sophomore
Kristin Pezzuti in 12th (20:58). Freshman Suzanne Hansen also placed in the top 15, as she placed 15th (21:04).
The Fordham cross country teams will next be in action on Friday, October 5th, as they compete in the Metropolitan Championships, held at Van Cortlandt Park.
