(July 26, 2006) ?C The Fordham University Athletics Department announced three new hires today with the addition of Courtney Hoffman and J.R. Barkamian as assistant trainers and the hiring of
Ted Perlak as the assistant strength and conditioning coach. Barkamian arrives at Rose Hill after spending the past year as the head athletic trainer at Sarah Lawrence in Bronxville, New York, where he was responsible for providing athletic training services to nine varsity teams. He also taught CPR/AED and First Aid to the Physical Education, Athletics and student-employee staff. In 2004-05, Barkamian served as an assistant trainer at Siena College where he helped provide training services for 18 varsity teams, concentrating on the men??s soccer and women??s basketball teams. It was his second stint at Siena, having served as an athletic training intern in 2001-02. Barkamian received a Masters of Education-School Counseling from Niagara in May of 2002. While at Niagara, he also served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for two years, working with the men??s soccer, women??s ice hockey, men??s and women??s swimming and diving and baseball teams. A 2001 graduate of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts with a Bachelor??s degree in Biology/Sports Medicine, Barkamian was a student athletic trainer as an undergraduate, serving as the head trainer with the women??s soccer and men??s basketball programs. Barkamian is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainer??s Association (NATA) as well as a New York State Licensed Athletic Trainer. He is also certified by the American Red Cross for CPR-AED for the Professional Rescuer as well as being an American Red Cross Certified Instructor for CPR/AED, Sports Safety & First Aid and Community First Aid. Hoffman joins the Fordham staff after serving as an assistant athletic trainer at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky, for the past two years where she was responsible for primary injury care, prevention and travel with the volleyball and men??s and women??s basketball teams. Prior to her stint at Union, Hoffman was an assistant athletic trainer at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky where she also served as an adjunct professor. At Lindsey Wilson, she worked with the women??s soccer, women??s basketball and softball teams as well as sharing responsibilities for the volleyball, track and field, cycling golf, tennis and bowling squads. Hoffman received a Master of Arts degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004, serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the Tar Heels for two years. Her duties included on-the-field care and injury prevention for the men??s lacrosse and women??s volleyball programs as well as providing clinical instruction to undergraduate Athletic Trainers. A 2002 graduate of Gettysburg College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Exercise Science, Hoffman served as a student athletic trainer for the Bullets for four years, receiving the Outstanding Student Athletic Trainer Award as a senior in 2002. Hoffman is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainer??s Association (NATA) and is certified in First Aid by the American Red Cross as well as being certified in CPR and AED for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association. Perlak, the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Iona College for the past two years, was named Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Fordham University it was announced today by Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Jason George. At Iona, Perlak was responsible for the design, implementation and coaching of all varsity athletic programs. He also supervised and organized staff participation in off-season and preseason workout sessions as well as being responsible for facility planning, equipment purchasing and staffing within the department. Prior to his two years at Iona, Perlak served as the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at Saint Joseph??s University in Philadelphia in 2004 where he designed and executed the strength and conditioning program for the Atlantic 10 Hawks. He was also responsible for off-season and preseason workout sessions. Perlak has also been involved with the United States Olympic Training Center, serving as a Strength and Conditioning Resident Intern from January until May of 2004 where he assisted the staff in developing and implementing programs for Olympic, Olympic hopefuls, Pan-American and Paralympic individual athletes and national teams. A 2001 graduate of Worcester State College, Perlak was a four-year starter and two-time captain with the football squad before earning a Bachelor??s degree in Health Science with a concentration in Exercise Science. Following a year where he served as the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at his alma mater, Perlak then attended Temple University in Philadelphia, working as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and earning a Master??s degree in Sport Administration in 2004.
