(January 23, 2006) - Jim Gallione, who served as an intern equipment manager with the New York Jets this past year, was named Athletic Equipment Manager at Fordham University it was announced today. Additionally,
Dave Zippo, ATC, a former athletic training student at Iona College, was named Assistant Athletic Trainer at Fordham University it was announced today. Gallione had worked with the Jets this past fall, working practices by assisting the equipment managers on the field as well as assisting with the maintenance and repair of all game and practice helmets. He was also responsible for assisting in the set up and testing of the Coach-to-Quarterback communication system and maintaining inventory. Prior to his stint with the Jets, Gallione was employed in a similar capacity with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an intern with the equipment managers. With the Jaguars, he assisted the equipment managers with all facets of practice and game-day activities, including setting up and breaking own for practice and preparation and packing equipment for road games. A 2005 graduate of William Paterson University, Gallione received a degree in Communications while also serving as the Student Supervisor of Athletic Equipment Staff. At William Paterson, he was responsible for equipment needs with the football, field hockey, men??s and women??s soccer, men??s and women??s basketball, baseball, softball, track and field and volleyball teams. Included in his duties was the supervision of the other student equipment managers, working the pre-season camps for all fall sports and purchasing equipment. Gallione was also a catcher with the William Paterson baseball team for three years, participating in the 1999 NCAA Division III World Series. Zippo, who joined the Iona staff in September of 2002, was responsible for prevention, evaluation and rehabilitation of the Gaels?? student-athletes. He provided coverage for home and away contests and recorded daily treatments and injury reports. Since last February, Zippo has also been employed as a Physical Therapist Aide at IvyRehab Network, Inc. in Harrison, New York where he assisted physical therapists with treatment and rehabilitation. Prior to his time at Iona, Zippo served as an Athletic Training Student at Portchester High School during the 2002-03 academic year, managing and overseeing all healthcare needs for all sports. During the 2001-02 academic year, Zippo was an Athletic Training Student at Manhattanville College, working exclusively with the national ranked NCAA Division II men??s and women??s hockey teams. A 2004 graduate of Dominican College, Zippo received a degree in Athletic Training after graduating from Westchester Community College in 1999 with a degree in Math and Science. He is certified by the American Red Cross in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training and First Aid and by the American Hear Association in CPR/AED & First Aid.
